Auto Parts City, based in Park City, Ill., has received the Green Business of the Year Award from the Green Business League (GBL). The company also was presented with a platinum level Green Business Certification from the GBL.
In recognizing the auto recycler, the GBL notes, “This state of the art auto recycling service is one of the most remarkable examples of turnarounds that we have frankly seen in 2010. Larry and Jay Brosten operate this remarkable business with notable recognition of their father's immense contribution.”
Old cars are processed in the most efficient manner, with all fluids harvested and segregated. Through this process, roughly 50,000 gallons of gas and 20,000 gallons of oil are removed in the very start of the process. Antifreeze and transmission fluids are removed, filtered, and rebottled. Batteries and tires are removed from the cars for resale or recycling.
Oil recovered from the vehicles is used to power a CleanBurn furnace.
