The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), Washington, has reported that for the month of August, U.S. steel mills shipped about 8.47 million net tons of steel, which is a 4.4 percent increase from the nearly 8.12 million net tons shipped in the month of July. The amount of U.S. steel shipped in August is also 0.4 percent higher than the 8.44 million net tons shipped in August 2018, AISI reports.
The association reports that August shipments of hot-rolled sheets increased 10 percent compared with July. Additionally, August shipments of hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip increased 7 percent compared with July and August shipments of cold-rolled sheets increased about 3 percent compared with July.
