Plastic Scrap, Middle East, Kuwait

Shaker Adel H. Al-Essa, Metal And Recycling Company (MRC), provides a commentary on the plastic scrap market in the Middle East, including Kuwait.

We are seeing demand. We started booking our plastic material in advance. Because of that, whatever we are producing, we are delivering. Our demand is more than our procurement. Our procurement is neither increasing nor decreasing due lack of legislation enforcement.

The material specific demand that we are facing involves that the material color and purity level improves. As for local manufacturer demand, since the local companies have emerged many years prior to the recycling awareness habits of Kuwait, most facilities have their own recycling facilities. Also, many of them believe it is more cost productive to perform the application themselves, instead of outsourcing the service.

We are exporting to India, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

There has been an increase in demand for P.E Extruder Black and decrease in P.E Extruders White. The reason is with black, if we mix any color of the same material specification with a master batch, it will produce Black P.E Extruder but our P.E white Extruder is produce by milky and natural color of raw material which produce off white color. After mixing of our P.E Extruder white along with pure white color, it is effecting color characteristics.

Recyclable plastic in crush, lumps or granulated form, whether PET Bottle, films Bundle, have to obtain the approval of the EPA and the customs, for both export and import. The government of Kuwait is also working on a recycling campaign model.

The EPA has banned imports certain plastics.
