AT&T Texas is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the thefts that have recently occurred of AT&T copper telephone cables in the Edinburg, McAllen and Brownsville areas of Texas. The steady rise in the market price of copper over the last few years has led some people to take extreme measures, including stealing copper cables from houses and telephone poles.
AT&T Texas will distribute posters to local pawn shops, scrap metal companies and law enforcement agencies. The poster lists the dates and locations where thefts of AT&T copper telephone cables have occurred. AT&T Texas urges shop owners, employees and anyone else with information to call (800) 807-4205 to begin the investigation process and possibly claim their $3,000 reward.
"AT&T is taking this matter very seriously," said AT&T Spokesperson April Borlinghaus. "We are working with law enforcement personnel to ensure that those responsible for the crimes are apprehended and punished. We feel that the reward will motivate people with information to come forward."
