Aluminum Association Joins Vehicle Recyclers
The Aluminum Association, Washington, has signed a collaborative agreement with the Vehicle Recycling Partnership, Highland Park, Mich., an automotive recycling partnership made up of General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Corp. The VRP works to improve the dismantling, recycling and reusability of passenger vehicles and components.
"As aluminum usage grows in cars and light trucks, the automotive industry can benefit from the Association’s existing network of task groups to develop automotive recycling guidelines, model the recycling stream for auto aluminum scrap and survey the aluminum practices in the dismantling community," says Susan Yester, chairman of the VRP.
Aluminum comprises five to 10 percent of an average car’s weight, but it represents 35 to 50 percent of the recycled material value.
STMC SPONSORS SCRAP TIRE WORKSHOPSThe Scrap Tire Management Council, Washington, will sponsor scrap tire workshops designed to provide a forum where state scrap tire regulators, market development professionals and the public can meet and develop programs that can further expand scrap tire markets. The first workshop will be in Nashville, Tenn., in November 1997, with a second in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in the first quarter of 1998. The goal is to have a series of workshops that allows every state the opportunity to participate.
The regional programs will target concerns, issues and markets specific to particular regions. Workshops will be one and a half days long.
