Salyp NV of Ypres, Belgium, has announced the start-up of what it is calling its “full operational auto shredder residue (ASR) sorting factory” earlier this month.
The company says its ASR sorting line is based on “various patent-protected technologies and is showing an operational process capacity of 6 metric tons of ASR per hour.” The Salyp process can extract the plastics, ferrous metal, aluminum, stainless steel, copper and the foam from the ASR. In the process, “The foam is continuously being cleaned,” according to a Salyp news release.
In a one-shift operation, Salyp is processing and recycling up to 50 metric tons of ASR per day. The company is finding a material split of 20 percent metal-rich streams, 20 percent plastics streams and 50 percent clean energy substitutes being created.
Salyp’s operational ASR sorting plant has been designed as an example for potential shredder operator customers to examine for performance, economics and feasibility of its ASR recycling and sorting system. The company plans integration of its plants all over Europe and beyond as a way to comply with the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directives mandated by the European Union.Latest from Recycling Today
