Arrow Electronics Inc., Centennial, Colorado, has announced a collaboration with NetComm Wireless Limited, a Sydney-based global developer of wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) devices, to provide the market’s first Intelligent Gateway. The launch represents the first phase of the new “Arrow Intelligent Services” framework and set of software capabilities introduced by Arrow Electronics to simplify and expedite Internet of Things (IoT) deployments worldwide, according to the company.
The new global offering will lower deployment costs and accelerate the development of IoT applications that interact with IoT hardware through standard Web services and application programming interfaces (APIs), rather than through proprietary interfaces and development kits, Arrow says.
“Arrow Intelligent Services is the ‘fabric’ that will enable the edge-to-enterprise integration of IoT solutions,” says Aiden Mitchell, vice president of semiconductor marketing at Arrow. “It will dramatically simplify the way OEMs, enterprises and suppliers build, deploy and manage connected and intelligent systems.”
Mitchell continues, “The easier we can make it for businesses to access meaningful data from IoT, the easier it will be for them to build new applications, integrate existing systems, share information and monetize new offerings.”
“NetComm Wireless has long recognized the importance of open, simple and economical connectivity solutions and we are pleased to work with Arrow Electronics on the delivery of a market-first Intelligent Gateway that will streamline complex and fragmented development processes, and significantly reduce the time and cost involved in building new applications anywhere in the world,” says David Stewart, CEO and managing director, NetComm Wireless.
Arrow Intelligent Gateways will be launched as the first part of a new framework that will provide off-the-shelf management capabilities for a number of product categories. The technology leverages a common set of API-based services to normalize setup, configuration and management of NetComm Wireless’ M2M devices.
