The Fayetteville, Ark., City Council will be asked to approve a $1.17 million budget, enabling the Solid Waste and Recycling Division to start up a new commercial-waste pickup and recycling program later this year.
Gary Dumas, the city's director of operations, brought the proposal forward. If approved, seven full-time staff members would be hired and new equipment to expand the city's waste-collection program would be purchased.
Under the proposal, those waste-hauling companies that contract with Fayetteville, primarily Waste Management and Roll Off Service, will not be allowed to continue operating inside the city after Sept. 1 without council approval.
The council passed a resolution in August supporting a city-operated commercial solid-waste collection program. (Springfield, Arkansas) Morning News
