Arizona DEQ Requests Grant Applications

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is requesting applications for nearly $1.2 million in grants. Applications must be submitted by May 19 to be eligible.

Private enterprises, political subdivisions, Tribal governments and nonprofit organizations that serve Arizona communities are invited to submit applications.

            The funding programs available are:

• Waste Recycling Assistance (WRA) EV07-0001 – assists in providing recycling opportunities to all Arizonans and in providing funding assistance to projects that divert significant amounts of materials from the solid waste stream or are a component of a comprehensive program designed to achieve high diversion levels. Applications will be evaluated on the goal of the project; the solid waste and community impact; partnerships and organizational background; methodology, timeline, tasks and deliverables; and budget form and narrative.
• Waste Reduction Initiative Through Education (WRITE) EV07-0002 – provides Arizonans with information and education needed to increase awareness to properly reduce and dispose of solid waste and to encourage participation in source reduction, reuse and recycling opportunities. Applications will be evaluated on the goal of the project; partnerships and organizational background; the solid waste education impact and community need; methodology, timeline, tasks and deliverables; and budget form and narrative.
• Recycling Research and Development (RR&D) EV07-0003 – provides funding assistance to projects that develop tools and ideas that will help divert significant amounts of materials from the solid waste stream. Projects should involve research, including feasibility studies, solid waste audits or technology development, such as equipment or processes to increase proper disposal of solid waste, source reduction, recycling, buying recycled-content products or composting. Applications will be evaluated on the project goal; organization and background and previous research experience; long-term solid waste and recycling community impact; methodology, timeline, tasks and deliverables; budget form and narrative.
