Arconic Corp. hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for its new $175 million state-of-the-art casthouse expansion (Pit 10) at its Davenport Works in Riverdale/Bettendorf, Iowa,  Feb. 27, according to local news reports. The company shared a LinkedIn post about the groundbreaking the week of March 2.

The investment will expand aluminum ingot casting capacity, increase its use of aluminum scrap, improve energy efficiency and drive more domestic manufacturing, according to the company, which adds that the project will create 40 new jobs at the site.

The ingots produced at the site will be used to make sheet and plate products.

A new saw also will be added, improving efficiency and safety, according to a news release from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA).

The IEDA board awarded $6.55 million in tax credits to the Pittsburgh-based company through the Business Incentives for Growth, or BIG, program. The BIG program, which supports growth in key industries such as advanced manufacturing, bioscience, insurance and finance and technology, helps qualifying businesses offset some of the costs of locating, expanding or modernizing a facility in Iowa.

IEDA says all awards are tied to a contract with the organization that outlines required investments, job creation/retention and other commitments.

According to WQAD, the Pit 10 expansion is expected to be fully operational in 2028.
