Appliance Recycling Centers of America Inc. has been awarded a contract by Great River Energy to provide refrigerator and freezer recycling services for its member cooperatives' residential electric customers in Minnesota. The program is scheduled to run from April 1-Sept. 30, 2010.
Through this program, consumers who turn in operating but energy inefficient refrigerators and freezers will be eligible for a $35.00 incentive check. Customers may turn in two units per account per year and will receive a $35.00 incentive for each unit. The incentive, which will be paid by Great River Energy and its member cooperatives, is designed to offset the costs normally incurred when disposing of an old refrigerator or freezer, often in favor of a new, more energy efficient model.
Qualifying refrigerators and freezers must be operational (cooling) at the time of pickup and have rated capacities between 10 and 27 cubic feet. Great River Energy's member cooperatives will distribute additional program information to cooperative consumers in early 2010.
