The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) has canceled its 2001 convention and exposition, which had been scheduled to take place in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Oct. 10-13.
The decision was made by the group’s executive committee and board of directors, who in a letter to exhibitors cited “the unprecedented developments in the United States and ARA’s concern for its members, exhibitors and attendees.”
In a letter to exposition participants, ARA president Herb Lieberman wrote, “the need for cancellation of the ARA convention was overwhelming and just. This is a time to be with family and friends.”
Lieberman also wrote that “disrupted and reduced airline schedules will make it difficult, if not impossible, for many to attend.”
As opposed to postponing the event with a scheduled make-up date, the ARA instead chose to cancel its 2001 event completely.
The group, whose membership consists of auto dismantlers, salvage yard operators and parts recyclers, has its 2002 convention scheduled to take place in Salt Lake City in November of next year.
