Akron, Ohio, scrap recycler Annaco will continue an April tradition by paying a premium for aluminum used beverage containers (UBCs) for an entire week to celebrate Earth Day.
The company has chosen the week of April 18-22 this year to run its UBC Earth Day promotion. Earth Day takes place on Friday, April 22.
Annaco has chosen a rate of 55 cents per pound for UBCs brought into the company’s Akron facilities, and will also provide snacks and refreshments to customers throughout the week.
“Our recycling work at Annaco benefits the environment each day of the year, especially in reducing energy consumption and pollution,” a company press release notes.
The scrap industry recycles some 100 million tons of secondary commodities each year, the company notes, using processes that can save from between 74 and 95 percent when producing aluminum, copper or steel.
The metals recycling process also cuts down on emissions, water use and the production of mining wastes, according to the U.S. EPA.
