Judging by remarks often heard at industry conferences, the establishment of scrap metal prices by American Metal Market (AMM), New York, must be a thankless task.
Either sellers on one side of the transaction equation or buyers on the other are usually unhappy with a published price at any given time.
Scrap recyclers and consumers who wish to find out more about how these prices are determined will get a chance at the ISRI (Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc.) Annual Convention in April, when AMM publisher Martin Abbott addresses attendees at a session entitled, “The Perils of Price Transparency.”
The session takes place Thurs., April 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the convention site, the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Fla.
According to ISRI, “Abbott will describe the methodology employed and the rules governing AMM’s price collection and reporting of primary and scrap metal prices.” Additionally, AMM reporters will be on hand to field attendee questions during the question-and-answer session that follows Abbot’s remarks.
In his presentation, Abbott will also, “discuss the merits as well as the difficulties in achieving ‘price transparency’ through the publication,” according to an ISRI news release.
