American Tissue Co. closed its plant for six to eight weeks in Mechanicville, N.Y., due to high inventory of finished product.
American Tissue also has curtailed or temporarily suspended production in Greenwich, Washington County, and in Winchester, N.H.
The company, which employs 360, produces paper towels and other products from recycled paper for large commercial users. That narrowly targeted customer base helps the company stay responsive to changes in the industry, Raccuia said.
American Tissue is considering changing its name to American Paper Corp. once it completes the consolidation. The name change is to reflect the company's product line, which includes facial and bathroom tissue, paper napkins, paper towels, table covers, paper plates and paper bags. Times Union
