American Pulverizer Installs Its First Super-Heavy Duty Shredder in U.K.

Company’s 80x104 Super Heavy-Duty Shredder installed at Birmingham-based Hawkeswood Metals.

American Pulverizer, a recycling equipment manufacturer based in St. Louis, has announced that it has installed its first 80x104 Super-Heavy-Duty Shredder in the United Kingdom at Birmingham-based Hawkeswood Metals.

According to a company news release, the Amercian Pulverizer team arrived at Hawkeswood Metals and had the system up and running in less than a week and has been running it regularly since then.
American Pulverizer and its wholly owned subsidiary Hustler Conveyor supplied the mill and the undermill oscillator, while the downstream was designed and built by a local U.K. company. Operators were trained and had started running the system in less than 2 days.

Hawkeswood Metal says it chose the American Pulverizer 80x104 based on the heavy-duty design and its ability to process heavier materials with ease, according to the release. The company had visited several American Pulverizer 80x104 installations in the United States and witnessed first-hand the quality and ruggedness of its design as well as the ease of operation, the company says.

The Hawkeswood system has several unique features. This is the first American Pulverizer shredder to offer remote operation of mill without an operator control room over top of the motor control building. The company says that by using both infrared and closed-circuit cameras it was able to locate the operator closer to the feed end of system, allowing the operator to check materials as they are fed onto the infeed conveyor and helping to eliminate any materials deemed undesirable from entering the system. This APCO/Pinnacle Engineering E-Shred package is designed to allow the shredder to control production at a constant rate.

Additionally, this is also the first system in the U.K. to utilize the QuadPlus 4600 HP DC Drive Package, according to American Pulverizer.
