American Beverage, the Washington-based organization representing the nonalcoholic beverage industry in the United States, recently touted the six years of progress made by its Every Bottle Back initiative, highlighting more than $2 million in investments this year and the delivery of 1 million recycling carts to U.S. households.
The organization says the $2 million it has provided across seven states this year is going toward expanding access to recycling and improving the infrastructure that turns used bottles and cans into new ones.
“Our bottles and cans are made to be remade, and families across the country can see that promise in action,” American Beverage President and CEO Kevin Keane says. “We’ve delivered more than 1 million recycling carts, making it easier for communities to participate in recycling programs while increasing the number of 100 percent recycled plastic bottles and cans on store shelves. Our commitment is ongoing: to protect the environment and keep these valuable materials out of landfills for generations to come.”
Through Every Bottle Back, in collaboration with Closed Loop Partners and The Recycling Partnership, American Beverage says companies have invested in recycling infrastructure across 66 communities nationwide and kept an estimated 737 million pounds of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and 46 million pounds of aluminum out of landfills and the environment over the next decade.
American Beverage says 2025 project highlights include:
- A $300,000 investment to work with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to expand access in rural communities with the project launch in Kingman. An additional $97,400 was invested in the state to expand curbside recycling to more than 34,000 residents in Sahuarita.
- A $150,000 investment in Michigan to enhance recycling access for more than 17,000 Van Buren County residents.
- A $202,000 investment in Alabama to support new recycling centers for 110,000 Baldwin County households.
- A $471,200 investment in Massachusetts to provide recycling carts to residents in South Hadley, Longmeadow and Arlington, pushing statewide investment past $1 million.
- A $57,200 investment in Rhode Island to expand curbside recycling for 4,400 Portsmouth households.
- A $263,000 investment in Florida to deploy artificial intelligence-enabled recycling technology to reduce contamination for 54,000 Pensacola residents.
- A $478,500 investment in Utah to provide recycling carts for 35,865 Wasatch households.
American Beverage says Every Bottle Back “remains a cornerstone of the beverage industry’s sustainability leadership” by ensuring recyclable plastic bottles and aluminum cans are collected and remade as intended. “As the initiative moves into 2026 and beyond, it will continue to expand infrastructure, modernize collection systems, educate communities on proper recycling practices and advance policy solutions that make recycling more efficient, accessible and financially sustainable nationwide.”
