For recyclers, the holidays are arriving early as communities across the country are gearing up to celebrate the Eighth Annual America Recycles Day on Nov. 15.
The organization behind the celebration is sporting a new name this year¾America Recycles 2004¾and a new theme aimed at encouraging people to rally behind recycling year-round.
The tag line “It All Comes Back to You” sums up the new-and-improved message, says Kate Krebs of the National Recycling Coalition (NRC).
“Recycling gets down to one person taking action,” she says. “And we know that motivations to recycle vary from one person to another. Our new theme line appeals to several of the motivations and will hopefully strike a responsive chord with millions of Americans.”
In its eight-year history, the program has strived to raise awareness about the environment and promote recycling and the use of recycled products.
Last year, thousands of people signed pledges to recycle and buy recycled, according to the NRC.
“Recycling is a simple way in which all Americans can make a difference in our environment,” says Krebs. “We have found each year that people want to do something and just need to be reminded and shown how easy it is to get involved and do their part.”
As part of the festivities, America Recycles 2004 will raffle off a Ford Escape Hybrid to one lucky adult recycler who signs a pledge. Young environmentalists are eligible to enter a raffle for five Trek Model 4300 bikes.
