Alutrade has named two new joint managing directors to replace, Malcolm George, who has stepped down after almost four decades at the helm of the family aluminum recycling business.

Alutrade, based in Oldbury, England, credits Malcolm’s brother, Chris George, for setting up the business in 1987, with Malcolm joining shortly afterwards.

“Over the last 38 years, the company has grown to become the largest and most established independent aluminum recycling specialist in the U.K.,” the company says.

Currently, Alutrade handles more than 30,000 metric tons of aluminum scrap each year at its facility in Oldbury. The company says it was the first in the world to install Tomra’s X-Tract X-ray sorting device.

The company credits ongoing equipment investment and a zero-to landfill focus, along with helping its customers significantly improve their carbon footprint, for its staying power.

“This is the right time for me to take a step back from day-to-day operations and focus more on my family,” Malcolm says. “However, I will remain in close contact with everyone. Alutrade has been my life’s work, and I will always want the very best for the company.

“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has supported Alutrade over the last 38 years, from our metal suppliers and end user remelt [companies] to all past and present employees, who have worked tirelessly to make Alutrade the first choice for aluminum and metal solutions.

“I look forward to seeing the exciting plans and opportunities that lie ahead. The company is in an extremely strong position, and I can’t wait to watch how the next 38 years unfold.”

Alutrade managing co-directors now are Malcolm’s nephew, Mike George, who has worked for the company for 20 years, and Kevin Pugh, the firm’s production director for the past seven years.

The company’s senior leadership team also includes Malcolm’s nephew, Edward George, who has been commercial manager for the past eight years, Lindsey Johnson-Smith, who has been the finance manager for five years, and John Thompson, who has been the health and safety manager for seven years.

“Both Kevin and I are excited about the opportunity to lead Alutrade going forward, with a strong focus on collaborative success and a desire to drive growth and innovation while upholding Alutrade’s industry-leading values and reputation,” Mike George says.
