Aluminum Mill Locating Plant in Indiana

Company expects to take advantage of proximity to extruders in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.

Alexin LLC announced plans to build an aluminum billet facility in Bluffton, Ind. The plant will be the first for the company.

The company will invest more than $56 million to equip and financing the facility, which will convert scrap into billets, which will be used for extruders.

The company expects to start operation of the plant by late next year following the construction of a 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and a 200,000-square-foot storage area when it will keep the scrap aluminum. When fully operational the plant will produce more than 210 million pounds of aluminum billet a year.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered the company up to $745,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $37,500 in training grants based on the company’s announced job creation plans.

According to the Aluminum Extruders Council there are 29 aluminum extruders in Illinois, Michigan and Indiana.

Tom Horter, president of Alexin, noted that Alexin can supply billet quickly from its location to the extrusion customers. "We have found that many billet suppliers have located their facilities convenient for themselves rather than their customers. We will be able to get products and services to customers faster and in a more cost-effective manner."

Alexin will be able to offer a wide range of products, including large diameter billet, up to 16 inches in diameter, and finished lengths up to 290 inches".
