
A research report by two global firms predicts aluminium consumption in India will increase from 3.3 million tonnes in the country’s 2015-2016 fiscal year to 5.3 million tonnes in 2020-2021, representing a 60.6 percent increase in annual consumption.
The report, titled “Indian Aluminium Industry: Geared for growth,” was distributed at the World Non-Ferrous Conference 2016 in Mumbai in early October and was prepared by Mumbai-based ratings and research firm Crisil and Mumbai-based online nonferrous trading firm Mtlexs.
The report’s authors cite “a host of government initiatives like, Make in India, Smart Cities, Housing for All, rural electrification and freight corridors” as reasons for the growth, according to an online article by the Economic Times of India.
