Romanian aluminum foundry seeks buyer

Swiss-owned aluminum casting plant is listed for sale on foundry sector website.

An aluminum foundry located in Romania owned by Switzerland-based Alu Metall Guss AG is being put up for sale, according to information posted to the Foundry-Planet website.

According to the website’s post, S.C. Alu Metall Guss s.r.l. (AMG Romania) was established as a new, greenfield-site foundry in 2010 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Switzerland-based AMG. AMG Romania is currently under German management with a combined 100-plus years of aluminum sand casting experience, according to AMG.

The firm indicates that, “Due to succession planning, the company in Romania is now for sale.”

AMG Romania and its 45 employees produce aluminum sand castings weighing from 50 to 500 kilograms (110 to 1,100 pounds) per piece, with an annual capacity of approximately 2,500 metric tons when working two shifts. Components produced are for customers in the energy, railway and medical sectors, according to the company.

The plant is located on a 60,000-square-meter (14.8-acre) site, operating in a building with 7,000 square meters (75,000 square feet) of production and office space. A foundation has been laid for a second production building, and the property offers room for six-fold expansion, AMG indicates.

The web posting states the current owner “is looking for a party interested in taking over the entire company, including production facilities, land and business.” It defines the Romanian plant as an ideal “entry point in the European Union market for a non-EU company.”
