Alter Adds Minnesota Location

Alter Trading Corp., St. Louis, has acquired the assets of Becker Iron & Metal Inc., a scrap processing company based in Marshall, Minn. The privately held firm has been processing scrap metal in southwestern Minnesota since 1968, according to an Alter news release.

“The owners, Gary and Marj Becker, have been special friends and loyal customers of ours for years,” says Robert Goldstein, CEO and president of Alter Trading Corp. “This acquisition is a perfect fit given the professionalism and integrity for which the Becker organization and its employees are known,” he adds.

Robert Ellis of Alter Trading adds that their son Jason Becker has joined Alter as facilities manager at the Marshall site. “The transition should be pretty smooth,” says Ellis.

According to Ellis, the former Becker facility handles both ferrous and nonferrous scrap as well as also offering some new steel products.

Founded in 1898, Alter Trading, is one of the largest scrap processors in the country. It has six trading offices, including one in Shanghai, China, and 18 processing facilities in the Midwestern United States.
