The former Ares Corporation recycled aluminum processing plant in Scottsboro, Ala., has been acquired by the three principal owners of Allied Metal, a Chicago-based scrap processor and smelting operation. The acquisition was completed Dec. 16th.
The company, idled for more than one year, will operate under the name Allied Scottsboro LLC. It will be run independently of the company’s two other facilities, located in Chicago and Chattanooga, Tenn. The facility is about an hour south of Allied's Chattanooga facility.
Joel Fink with Allied of Chicago, will be the managing partner of the new facility.
Allied did not indicate when the facility will be reopened, although Fink said he hopes to have the facility open as soon as possible. The facility is around 67,500 square feet. It includes a crusher, frunace and a salt line. Plans call for the facility to make a mixture of metals and alloys when it finally comes on line.
