Netherlands-based aluminum producer Aldel-Damco Aluminum Delfzijl Cooperative UA says it has reached an agreement with London-based trading house Glencore for that firm to purchase up to 180,000 tons of aluminum from Aldel in 2020 and 2021.
On its website, Aldel states, “Each year we produce some 110,000 metric tons of new (or primary) aluminum [and] we make another 50,000 metric tons by remelting purchased aluminum, including scrap.”
“This is a tremendous boost for Aldel, for our people and for the wider economy, especially in the context of the corona crisis and the economic uncertainty that has resulted from it,” says Chris McNamee, CEO of Aldel.
“This agreement, with one of the major players in our industry, makes our medium-term future even safer and gives us confidence to continue our 10-year plan to make Aldel one of the most important green aluminum producers in Europe. We believe that Europe needs a strong, efficient and green production base more than ever and that we, as an independent aluminum producer, have an important place in this.”
Aldel describes itself as producing “high-quality aluminum for the European transport and construction sectors.” It was acquired by New York-based York Capital in November 2017.
Aldel says it sees the Glencore agreement as “an important signal of confidence in the company, which is making every effort to increase production this year.” The aluminum producer says it is pursuing a 10-year plan “to become one of the leading producers of cheap and energy-efficient aluminum in Europe.”
