The aluminum firm Alcoa, headquartered in Pittsburgh, has signed a long-term agreement to supply aluminum sheet with Spirit AeroSystems Inc. in a five-year contract valued at nearly $290 million. Under the agreement, Alcoa’s Davenport, Iowa, facility will provide Spirit with aluminum sheet products for fuselage skins.Spirit AeroSystems, headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, designs and manufactures aerostructures for commercial, military, businesses and regional jets throughout the world.
Alcoa says the deal strengthens its push into the aerospace industry. The company recently announced that it expects to see its growth in the aerospace sector increase by 9 percent per year in light of strong demand from the aerospace industry. Alcoa earlier had forecast growth in the aerospace sector of about 8 percent.
“Alcoa produces lightweight metallic solutions for the aerospace industry that deliver strength, aerodynamic efficiencies and corrosion resistance,” says Mark Vrablec, president of Alcoa’s global aerospace, transportation and industrial rolled products. “This new multiyear contract with Spirit deepens our collaborative relationships and enables us to continue to grow in this important market. We are well-established in the aerospace industry and offer the best value and performance to our customers.”
