Alcoa will close its Kawneer Co. plant in Jonesboro, Ga. by the end of March.
The plant makes aluminum doors and frames for commercial buildings.
The shutdown is part of Alcoa's restructuring efforts announced in November, which includes cutting about 6,500 jobs at 40 locations around the world.
"There is industry overcapacity and declining market demand. We must reduce our manufacturing base if we are to remain an industry leader," said William O. Cralley, president of Norcross-based Kawneer.
Kawneer was part of Alcoa's 1998 acquisition of Atlanta-based Alumax, a major supplier of aluminum building products. Atlanta Journal Constitution.
