Alcoa Chooses Preferred Scrap Suppliers

Alcoa division will hold award presentation Sept. 7.

Alcoa has announced that its Alcoa Materials Management business has picked its annual list of the top ten scrap processors using criteria including: quality; volume; and performance. Six of the top ten suppliers are returning for a second consecutive year, joining four new suppliers that worked diligently in accomplishing this industry status.

The top ten scrap suppliers for 2006 are:

- Atlas Metal And Iron Corp., Denver

- Carolina Recycling Group, Lyman, S.C.

- Commercial Alloys, Twinsburg, Ohio

- Joseph Simon And Sons Inc., Tacoma. Wa.

- Omnisource Corporation, Fort Wayne, Ind.

- Shapiro Metals, St. Louis

- Shine Brothers Inc., Spencer, Iowa

- Sturgis Iron And Metal, Sturgis, Mic.

- Utah Metal Works, Salt Lake City

- Weiner Iron And Metal, Pottsville, Pa.

In 2004, AMM initiated a Strategic Scrap Supplier Program to ensure future scrap volume and quality requirements for Alcoa's businesses. "The program's goal is to increase scrap units by utilizing fewer scrap dealers and focusing on strategic dealers who work closely with the company on substantial volumes, and annual and formula priced orders," said Rich Markiewicz VP of AMM Metal Purchasing.

The Second Annual Materials Management Preferred Scrap Supplier Award Presentation will take place Sept. 7th 2006 in Knoxville, Tenn. In addition, two additional awards will be presented this year. The "Preferred Copper Scrap Supplier" will be awarded to Copper Consultants (Phoenix, AZ,) and the "Alcoa Materials Management Scrap Buyers Choice Strategic Scrap Dealer" award for outstanding progress made in improving quality and service will be presented to Schupan and Son, Kalamazoo, Mich.
