Alcan Inc. filed the notification of its offer for Pechiney with the European Commission August 14th. The Commission is expected to announce its Phase 1 decision on September 29.
In connection with the filing, Alcan has submitted commitments to the Commission in relation to the European markets for aluminum flat rolled products, aluminum aerosols and aluminum cartridges. These commitments are consistent with those envisaged and communicated on the launch of the offer for Pechiney July 7, 2003.
Alcan also anticipates that the waiting period under the US Hart-Scott- Rodino (HSR) Act will expire or be terminated by September 29, 2003.
