Cleveland-based Alcan donated proceeds to Henderson’s "Aluminum Cans Build Habitat for Humanity Homes" program. Participating communities included Berea, Kentucky; Cleveland, Ohio; Greensboro, Georgia; Oswego, New York; and Russellville, Kentucky.

The total number of UBCs collected during the Alcan ARD contest numbered greater than 200,000. Alcan’s corporate office matched the recycling dollars raised within each community. Alcan awarded an additional $5,000 to the Habitat affiliate in the Henderson as a grand prize for collecting the most cans among the participating communities. Alcan's total contribution to Habitat is $12,330.
The contest, which began on Labor Day and ran through November 17th, had Alcan employees collecting and recycling used aluminum beverage cans as part of the company's sponsorship and support of ARD, held November 15.
"The real heroes of this extremely successful collection program were all the community residents, organizations and businesses who are helping to build the American Dream for those in need by recycling aluminum beverage cans," said Martha Brooks, Senior Vice President, Alcan Inc. "We thank everyone who participated to make every can count."
