Alabama Paper Products was approved for a tax incentive package from the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority. The decision by the TCIDA was made May 15th. The estimated tax abated through the program will be around $290,000. The tax incentive package will include a 10-year tax abatement on the property, as well as an abatement of sales tax on the sales/use tax during the construction period.
The company, which manufactures roofing material from recovered fiber, plans on expanding its Tuscaloosa facility, starting next month. The expansion plan is expected to cost around $4 million. The new capacity will allow the company to add new equipment, as well as sharply increase the plant’s output of roofing material. It is estimated that the company will be able to produce 500 tons of recycled-content paper products when the expansion is complete.
The company is a division of Maryland Paper Products, a Williamsburg, Md., based company that operates one paper mill in Maryland.
The Alabama plant started operation last August.
