The Alabama Department of Environmental Management is proposing a civil penalty of $100,000 to Union Foundry Co., the owner of a ductile iron fittings foundry and landfill in Anniston, Ala.
The state DEM claims that the company committed a host of violations, including failure to determine if the baghouse dust required treatment as a hazardous waste before disposing of the material.
Along with the penalty, the Alabama DEM is calling for Union Foundry to comply with the terms, limitations, and conditions of each permit and department regulations.
The agency is accepting comments on its proposed fines. Parties have 30 days from the published release date of Feb. 8 to comment.
A copy of the proposed order is available on the ADEM web page at www.adem.alabama.gov.
