Al-jon, an equipment manufacturer located in Ottumwa, Iowa, installed a 580 Car Logger at the Courtney Car Crushing and Scrap facility in Ottumwa, on July 16th.
The machine, weighing around 92,000 pounds, is capable of baling a bale load of automobiles every 30 minutes. According to Don Thompson, communications manager for Al-jon, that translates into roughly a car every 2-2-1/2 minutes. That includes the time from picking up the vehicle all the way through the baling process.
While the 580 is made specifically to bale automobiles, the Car Logger also is versatile enough to handle refrigerators, stoves, and washers and dryers, and other white goods.
Leonard Courtney, owner of Courtney Car Crushing, is a long time customer of Al-jon. “We appreciate the ties he has with Al-jon. He has been able to grow into his new business, and he has done a great deal with the community.”
The car logger is ideal for both traditional scrap recyclers, as well as auto dismantlers. With new Department of Transportation requirements calling for increasing attention to transporting auto hulks, Thompson says that the ability to bale vehicles prior to transport will reduce the need to put in addition strapping to ensure vehicles remain on trailer.
