Germany-based Akros Henschel is now offering its clients in the metal and scrap metal recycling industries a complete range of double- and triple-shaft pre-shredders. A pre-shredder, when installed upstream of a shredder, allows users to increase the shredder’s productivity due to the homogenization of incoming material; reduce the shredder’s average and peak electricity consumption levels; reduce the number of explosions in the shredder resulting from only partially depolluted vehicles and undetected gas bottles; limit damage to the shredder caused by explosions and unshreddable material; limit environmental risks caused by explosions; and reduce shredder wear, reducing the shredder’s maintenance downtime, according to the company.
In addition, Akros Henschel says that its machines are designed to meet the specific needs of its customers, including a design that ensures the machine’s life span, a hydraulic power unit specially designed by Akros Henschel’s teams with what it says are low maintenance, costs and double-shaft pre-shredders with an upper opening system designed for easy maintenance and handling.
GDE, one of the largest scrap iron recyclers in Europe, has ordered three ZDS 250-800 pre-shredders for its sites in Limay, Montoir de Bretagne and Salaise, France. The Limay pre-shredder has been operating since December 2010.
Another company, Rossi, will take ownership of Akros’ ZDS 220-400 pre-shredder at its site near Avignon, France. Brest Récupération, another European scrap metal company, has ordered a ZDS 250-800 preshredder from Akros Henschel, which will be installed at the end of 2011.
The pre-shredder range includes eight models that cover production requirements from 25 to 120 tons per hour.
