AK Steel announced plans to increase its surcharge by $90 per ton for its electrical steel sheet and strip products, effective with shipments on March 1, 2004. AK Steel previously implemented a surcharge to its electrical steels beginning with February shipments.
The amount of the surcharge is adjusted monthly based upon changes in raw material costs. This surcharge has been implemented to partially offset extraordinary increases in raw material costs, particularly costs of energy and steel scrap.
