Cleveland-Cliffs, the new owner of AK Steel, has reportedly notified workers at the AK mill in Dearborn, Michigan, that operations there will soon be scaled back.
According to WXYZ-TV of Detroit, AK Steel will permanently shut down the hot strip mill, plus annealing and tempering operations at the Dearborn Works plant in Michigan, near Detroit.
The notice reportedly said employment separations will begin in early July and will affect more than 340 employees.
On its website, AK Steel says the 350-acre Dearborn Works facility consists of a blast furnace, basic oxygen furnaces (BOFs), slab casters, the hot strip mill and a galvanizing line.
