Steel institute adds sustainability analyst

The Pittsburgh-based American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has hired Kishore Mahbubani as a sustainability analyst for its Steel Recycling Institute division. Mahbubani joins the institute after having worked at Alcoa and PepsiCo. He holds several degrees from Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Mellon University, including bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and public policy and a master’s degree in energy science, technology and policy.

“We are very pleased to have Kishore join our team,” says Mark Thimons, vice president of sustainability at the Steel Recycling Institute. “Kishore’s education and experience will help us achieve our aggressive plans for 2017 relative to documenting the sustainability advantages of steel in all markets.”

In his new role, Mahbubani will be involved in several projects, including the assessment of competitive materials, evaluation of recycling methodologies, life cycle assessment projects and the collection and aggregation of life cycle inventory data.

AISI describes itself as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and as playing a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI has 19 member companies, including integrated and electric arc furnace steelmakers, and approximately 125 associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry.
