The United States Environmental Protection Agency has completed a Superfund hazardous substances removal at the Med Waste of Alabama site in Decatur, AL. A removal is a short-term cleanup intended to stabilize or clean up a site that poses an imminent and substantial threat to human health or the environment. The removal was completed under the authority and direction of the Agency's Emergency Response and Removal Branch.
The removal included: securing the perimeter fence and buildings collection; the decontamination and disposal of bagged waste and containers; and the removal and disposal of contaminated soil.
The site consists of 1.2 acres. The site is owned by Med Waste of Alabama and was used for treatment and disposal of medical waste.
The site was referred to the EPA by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
