The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) has released its June 2012 "U.S. Recovered Fiber Monthly Report."
According to the report, total domestic recovered paper consumption in May 2012 was 2.45 million tons, 4 percent less than figures for May 2011. Year-to-date, recovered paper consumption declined by 3 percentage points from figures for the same time last year.
The AF&PA also reports that the export of recovered paper was flat in May compared with the prior month, with decreases in mixed paper and pulp substitutes offset by increases in other mechanical paper grades and old corrugated containers (OCC). Year-to-date, exports of recovered paper are down 4 percentage points from figures for the same period in 2011.
