Overview of Scheduled Events
AF&PA will host its 126th annual Paper Week March 9-12, 2003, at The Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, NY. Paper Week is the premier annual event for the U.S. pulp, paper, and paperboard industry.
This event attracts more than 800 participants from all segments of the business, including domestic and foreign companies, producers, customers, suppliers, media, business strategists, industry experts, and leading financial analysts. Paper Week provides participants with the opportunity to network with business peers, attend product group meetings and hear speakers address key issues that shape the industry's future.
Following are highlights of the Paper Week 2003 schedule:
The Pulp & Paper General Session will be held on Monday, March 10 from 9:15 to 11:45 a.m. Given Asia's economic potential and population growth, the region offers extraordinary opportunities and considerable risks to U.S. pulp and paper producers. This session offers insight from economists and industry analysts from the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Packaging General Session
The Packaging General Session will be held on Tuesday, March 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This year's session will examine the dynamic interaction among producers and packagers of goods, the consumer products companies who make these good, and the retailers who stock them, and will explore the demand for ever greater innovation in packaging and the challenges that manufacturers of containerboard and paperboard face in today's fiercely competitive marketplace.
Tissue Seminar
The Tissue Seminar will be held on Tuesday, March 11 from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. Primary manufacturer and converters of tissue products won't want to miss this exciting seminar that takes an in-depth look at a dynamic and growing market segment. This session will provide perspective on the future of the consumer tissue industry and explore why wet wipes are growing so quickly in the consumer market.
Recycling General Session
The Recycling General Session will be held on Wednesday, March 12 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This year's Recycling General Session will explore the potential impact that the increasing number of single-stream collection programs in the United States could have on recovered fiber quality. This session will include insight from paper industry representatives; a major national waste hauler and processor; a municipality that has adopted a modified form of single-stream recycling; and the institute that sets scrap paper quality standards.
RISI Seminar
The RISI Seminar will be held on Monday, March 10 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mr. John Maine, Vice President, Printing/Writing Papers, RISI will present the printing and writing paper market outlook and focus on the demand/supply balance for printing and writing papers in these critical markets. Mr. Maine will also address the outlook for magazines, catalogs, inserts, and advertising expenditures; import pressure faced by North American producers; and the state of future capacity growth.
Accenture Seminar
Accenture, a leading management consulting and technology services company, will present Breakthrough Performance Enhancement Strategies on Tuesday, March 11 from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. This seminar will discuss breakthrough performance enhancement strategies for the forest products industry. Key learnings, specific applications, and results will be included as part of this provocative presentation.
