The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), Washington, reports that U.S. containerboard production increased by about 4 percent in January compared with January 2019, while boxboard production in January decreased 2 percent compared with January 2019. The association released its January 2020 Containerboard Monthly report and its January 2020 Boxboard Monthly report.
According to AF&PA’s Containerboard Monthly report, production of containerboard for export in January increased 36 percent compared with the same month last year. The containerboard operating rate was 95.1 percent, up 3 percent from January 2019. However, mill inventories of containerboard decreased 31,000 tons at the end of January compared with December 2019, but the inventories were up 5,000 tons in January compared with January 2019.
Solid bleached boxboard production in January decreased 6 percent compared with January 2019, AF&PA reports in its Boxboard Monthly report. Recycled boxboard production in January decreased 2 percent compared with January 2019.
