AF&PA Seeks Award Nominees

Recycling awards will go to individuals, companies and communities.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), Washington, has announced that entry forms for the 2006 AF&PA Recycling Awards are available on its Web site at  www.paperrecycles.org.

In 2006, AF&PA will recognize outstanding individual, business, community and school recycling efforts.

The organization says it created the Recycling Awards to help promote increased paper recovery. “Thanks to the dedication of millions of Americans who recycle on a daily basis, the industry currently recovers nearly 50 percent of the paper consumed in the United States,” the AF&PA notes in a news release. “While this is a significant achievement, the industry has set a goal to recover 55 percent by 2012.  Reaching the new recovery goal will require the kind of creativity and ingenuity highlighted in AF&PA Recycling Award winning programs.”

Awards categories include:

·        The Ed Hurley Memorial Paper Recycling Award, which will go to an individual who has helped boost paper recycling.

·        Business Leadership Recycling Awards, one for large businesses of more than 150 employees and one for small businesses (fewer than 150 employees).

·        Community Recycling Awards for cities or counties with more than 100,000 residents and for a community with fewer than 100,000 residents

·        School Recycling Awards for classroom recycling programs and for school-wide recycling programs.

Those interested in filling out a nomination form can go to www.paperrecycles.org. Entries must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 17, 2006.  Winners will be announced on during AF&PA’s 129th Annual Paper Week in April of next year.
