AERC Recycling Solutions, based in Flanders, N.J., has announced that its facilities in Ashland, Va., and Houston have both attained R2/RIOS (Responsible Recycling/Recycling Industry Operating Standard) certification. Perry Johnson Registrars Inc., an accredited certification body for R2/RIOS standards, audited the facilities. The company’s West Melbourne, Fla., facility became a certified electronics recycler in 2010.
The company says it hopes to have its remaining facilities in Hayward, Calif., and Allentown, Pa., R2/RIOS certified in the near future.
AERC operates 10 facilities and two transfer stations in the United States. AERC planst to expand its national footprint to include additional locations, says Peter Jegou, CEO of AERC Recycling Solutions.
In addition to electronic scrap, AERC also manages universal wastes, such as lamps, batteries, ballasts and mercury-containing devices. AERC Allentown is one of only five mercury retort operations in the United States.
