AEC Announces 2005 End-Use Figures

Domestic consumption of aluminum extrusions in the U.S. and Canada increased 5.7 percent, according to association’s figures.

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), in cooperation with the Aluminum Association, has released industry estimates of extrusion shipments by major market for 2005. The AEC and the Aluminum Association have been collaborating and reporting annual end-use figures jointly since 1999.

According to the association’s report, domestic consumption of aluminum extrusions in the United States and Canada totaled an estimated 4.42 billion pounds in 2005, an increase of 5.7 percent over the revised previous year total of 4.18 billion pounds.

The building and construction market accounted for the largest market segment with shipments of 1.83 billion pounds of aluminum extrusions, or 41 percent of the domestic market.

The second largest market segment, according to the AEC, was transportation, with consumption estimated at 1.31 billion pounds or 29.6 percent of the total market.

Statistics are based on the results of an industry survey conducted by Business Research Services, an independent market research firm based in Cleveland, as well as estimates developed by the Aluminum Association’s Statistical and market Research Committee.
