The Chicago Chapter of the Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) has awarded Chicago-based Acme Refining Scrap Iron & Metal Company with its Company of the Year Award
Acme Refining, a corporate bronze sponsor to the AWMI, recently received the 2011 Company of the Year Award at the annual industry dinner held in Chicago. Acme says it has been supportive of women in the scrap metal industry since its inception and was one of the first scrap metal companies to hire women into non-traditional roles.
Acme says it supports the AWMI goal of providing women employed in the metal industries with a forum where they have opportunities to learn, network and grow their careers “while having a little fun in the process.”
Throughout the Chicago Chapter’s history, Acme employees have volunteered at numerous AWMI events. Acme sales professional, Tove Roe, received the Volunteer of the Year Award for her consistent dedication to the organization. Acme supports the participation of Anthony Pontillo, the Chicago Chapter’s first male AWMI Board member. Acme hosted a facility tour and barbeque to the AWMI in 2008 and says it plans to continue their steadfast support of the AWMI.
