Acme Adds US Scrap Properties

Chicago recycling company adds Indiana scrap locations.

Chicago’s Acme Refining Scrap Iron & Metal has completed the acquisition of US Scrap & Recycling and South Bend Baling & Iron of South Bend, Ind.

US Scrap & Recycling will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Acme Refining Scrap Iron & Metal effective immediately.

US Scrap & Recycling handles retail, demolition and industrial scrap, according to a news release sent by Acme Refining. The purchase of US Scrap will provide Acme Refining with a greater ability to serve the entire states of Indiana and Michigan, according to the company.

“We have been servicing industrial accounts in this area for over ten years and we are happy to put our Acme flag in the Indiana ground and start offering the manufacturers,

demolition companies and other scrap suppliers the same competitive pricing, incredible service and value added services enjoyed by over 4,000 customers in the Chicago land area,” says Mike O’Malley, Vice President of Sales of Acme Refining.

Acme Refining, founded in 1973 by Lou Baron, has grown from a one-man/one truck company to a fleet of more than 180 trucks, a team of 25 salespeople and more than 350 employees.

In addition to collecting and processing scrap metal, the company has expanded its services to paper and cardboard, plastics, demolition, oil and waste removal and document destruction.

With the addition of US Scrap & Recycling, Acme’s service area will span from Southern Wisconsin to Western and Southern Illinois and to all of Indiana and Michigan.

Acme’s nine locations operate on a combined 100-plus acres including a nonferrous metal warehouse, seven steel processing yards, a document destruction offsite shredding facility, a mechanic’s shop and a welding facility where Acme manufactures and repairs its own industrial equipment.
