The United Kingdom’s Environment Agency has received applications from Able UK Ltd for a new waste management license and for a consent to discharge for site drainage for its Teesside Reclamation and Recycling Center facility.
In its waste management license application Able is seeking permission to carry out a range of activities including dismantling, reclaiming and recycling offshore structures and ships.
The company is also seeking permission to discharge site drainage through a new outfall to the Tees Estuary. The discharge will include surface water run-off from the dismantling area after treatment through an oil/water interceptor.
Our licensing officers will now check the application to ensure the company has provided sufficient information for us to make a decision. Once this has been done the application will be put on the public register and a period of consultation will take place.
The Environment Agency will look at all the responses from local government officials and the public before making a decision.
Bob Pailor, Tees Valley environment manager, said: "We recognize that there will be considerable local interest over this application. We would welcome any responses to the application from the public."
The Environment Agency, along with Hartlepool Borough Council, will arrange a series of meetings with the public over the next month. At these meetings the agency will have the applications made available.
