Abitibi-Consolidated announced that its paper recycling program Paper Retriever is now available in five new U.S. mid-western cities. The launch of this program in these locations will further supply recycled paper to the company while supporting local schools, churches and other nonprofit groups who raise revenues via the program when residents drop off newspapers, magazines and other papers at Paper Retriever containers.
Abitibi-Consolidated announced its expansion into Akron, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit and Indianapolis at launch events in each city.
"Abitibi-Consolidated is the world's leader in newspaper and magazine recycling. The Paper Retriever program is an important part of our overall efforts to ensure the wise use of resources," said Michael Sullivan, general manager, Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Division. "Each time we expand the program into a new location, we bring valuable opportunities for all parties. The program raises the level of recycling awareness which benefits municipal curbside recycling rates by an average of 4.5 additional percentage points, nonprofits are offered a new source to raise revenues through partnership in the program, and the Company gains new sources of quality recycled fiber for manufacturing recycled newsprint."
