Abitibi-Consolidated is expected to complete the construction of its $50 million deinking plant at its Thorold, Ontario newsprint mill.
A new 1,709 tons a day fiber flow drum pulper will replace three batch pulpers whose combined capacity is 900 tons a day. The 400,000-ton a year mill, will become the largest newsprint mill in Canada to produce paper from 100 percent recycled fiber.
The project received board approval last spring, and site work commenced immediately, thereafter. Construction schedules are on track to meet a targeted date for operation early this summer.
NLK Consultants is providing engineering services from their Montreal offices, while Abitibi-Consolidated, as the general contractor, oversees the project. Ahlstrom-Andritz is the supplier of the new pulper and supporting equipment.
