Abitibi-Consolidated announced that due to soaring natural gas prices it would take two weeks of downtime at its Lufkin, Tex., mill. The company plans on taking the downtime starting March 23. The mill had only recently been reopened, according to local press reports.
The decision to take the machine off line follows a decision late last year to permanently close its Sheldon, Tex., newsprint mill.
According to reports the mill will be running both of its newsprint machines at full capacity until the mill takes the two weeks of downtime this month.
